Growth and development in human beings.

In terms of children's physical development, growth refers to an increase in a child's size, and development refers to a process in which a child develops his or her cognitive abilities. The period of human development from birth to adolescence is often divided into later stages.

1.Infancy (from birth 2 years).
2. Early childhood  (3 to 8 years).
3. Middle childhood (9 to 11 years) and
4. Adolescence (12 to 18 years).
Growth curves are usually used for measuring growth. The distance curve is a measure of volume over time; Records length as a function of years and gets higher with a rapid growth. The velocity curve measures the rate of growth during a period of a specific body activity (such as height or weight). The velocity curve is very high in childhood, up to 2 years, with steady growth each year thereafter and increasing again during adulthood. The average child's height increases by 30% in five months and 50% in one year. A five-year-old is often twice as tall as he was at birth. The legs and arms grow faster than the trunk, so body size varies greatly as a child grows into their teens. Different body systems grow and develop at different speeds. For example, if children are growing as fast as they are, the annual average is about 1.5 meters in height. Thus, weight gain increases faster than height. A normal baby repeats its birth weight after five months and then triples in one year. By the time a child is two years old, his birth weight becomes 4 time higher. The development of motor skills in a child is accompanied by the development of cognitive skills a process called cognitive development. Mental development can be divided into four categories:

1. Sensory motor stage: (birth to 18 months) At this stage, babies discover their environment using a combination of the senses (sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch) and motor functions.
2. Pre operational stage: (2-7 years)At this stage, children are not able to use information in logical ways, but rather by using pictures and symbols. They learn how to relate cause to effect and to think about something else. Speech development begins.
3.Concrete operational stage: (7-11 years) At this stage, children understand basic logical principles that apply to concrete exterior surfaces. They learn to organize things in stages, to change the way they think and think in terms of two concepts (such as length and width) at the same time.

Formal operational period: (11 ...) This stage is reached during adolescence. One can think invisibly and think of opportunities and possibilities, and one can think of his thinking activities.
